police carEver wondered what our police cars are up to, travelling up and down the highways and arterials?

Well of course most people realise that they are probably doing speed checks while they conduct their patrols.

What does this mean if you are following behind a police car?

Give plenty of distance to any police car you may be following as they may need to stop or attempt a sudden vehicle interception!  Remember the safe following distance is still the 2 second rule or one car length per 10 km/h.

This is a good opportunity to remind drivers that it is not acceptable to have your own interpretation of our speed limits. “It’s alright if I am only doing 10 or so over the limit” – this is not alright!

The bottom line is that the posted speed limit is the maximum speed permitted for that length of road. Community standards, well publicised crashes in the media and established research should be sufficient encouragement to drivers to do the right thing.
