Yesterday the Hon Jack Dempsey MP, Minister for Police officially launched the QPS school holiday road safety program.
This will involve a number of road safety strategies such as using covert and marked mobile speed cameras, static LIDAR (speed detection using automatic number plate recognition), random breath and drug testing, and organised traffic operations with marked and unmarked cars. These strategies will be in use throughout Bundaberg and the State.
The school holidays always brings about an increase in families on our roads travelling longer distances as they take full advantage of the chance to relax. A/Inspector Joe Hildred said “with more people on the roads we ask you to please be patient and take extra care. Make sure if you are travelling long distances that you plan ahead and take adequate rest stops.”
Remember the fatal five – fatigue, speeding, distraction, failing to wear a seatbelt, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol – contribute to the majority of crashes. Think about the impact that ignoring these factors could have on not only yourself and your family but also those around you.
Act responsibly on our roads and keep in mind road safety is everyone’s responsibility!
