Today Friday March 14, police participated in Operation Roo, a Bundaberg Regional Council training exercise conducted at the Bundaberg Airport.
The exercise was designed to test emergency service and airport safety operations responding to an aircraft incident. The simulated incident involved an aircraft hitting an object on the runway during landing resulting in landing gear failure. Mass casualties and deaths were simulated by students from Central Queensland University.
Emergency service personnel from Bundaberg Police, Queensland Fire & Emergency Services, State Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance Service worked side by side as they would in a real life situation. This exercise will help agencies to improve their plans and practices in the event of any unfortunate incident. The scenario was also used to train and develop staff who would rarely be exposed to an incident of this nature.
As we often say “Hope for the best… Prepare for the worst”.
